2010, Publication of a book with a CD by KEPEM (Center for Research and Promotion of National Music), featuring sounds from violins and tsambounas in Kalymnos.
20 musical samples from Kalymnian instrumentalists recorded by Simon Karas in 1957 and 1971. Running and wedding tunes and songs, seated and dance tunes, by leading instrumentalists of Kalymnos. Violinist Mikes Tsounias, lutenist Emmanouil Tsounias, tsambouna players Giannis Vouis, Giannis Ellinas, and Nikos Talias.
The multi-page tribute includes historical data about the Dodecanese and Kalymnos, as well as information about the local dialect, the music and tunes, the dance, and the traditional costume of Kalymnos. Texts on customs and traditions, as well as on the life of sponge divers, vividly and graphically convey the sense of the island's unique society.
The publication is accompanied by rich photographic material, the chronicle of the song recordings, as well as unpublished excerpts from Angeliki Karas' personal diary during the recordings.
