Collection: Charles Mingus

American Charles Mingus (1922–1979) was a virtuoso double bassist, composer, pianist, arranger, and bandleader, with a decisive influence on 20th-century jazz. He combined blues, swing, bop, Latin, classical, and avant-garde music, influenced by Duke Ellington. In the 1950s and 1960s, he recorded very important albums, founded the record company Debut Records and the workshop band Jazz Workshop. All of this, combined with his stance on the socio-political situation of his time, established him as one of the most respected figures in the music community. Despite his health problems, he continued to record and tour until the last years of his life, leaving a rich legacy that continues to inspire musicians and audiences.
