Tony Williams was an American jazz drummer (1945-1997), one of the most influential in jazz history. His innovative playing combined elements of jazz, rock, funk, and blues. At just 17 years old, he became a member of Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet. In 1969, he formed Tony Williams Lifetime with organist Larry Young and guitarist John McLaughlin, and in 1976, the Great Jazz Trio. He also collaborated with leading musicians such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.
